Rockstone Tour

Rockstone is a small Amerindian Community located 26km west of Linden on the right bank of the Essequibo River. It is predominantly inhabited by indigenous people and is known for its legendary sport fishing for the famous ‘Peacock Bass’, and its Annual Fish Festival. It comprises of lush green forests sporting many types of exquisite wildlife.

A boat ride from Rockstone will take us to the beautiful and extraordinary Gluck Island, one of the 365 islands found on the Essequibo River, where we go birding. You have great chances of seeing Parrots, Macaws, Toucans, Zig-Zag Heron, Spangled Cotinga, Golden-headed Manakin, Ducks, Woodpeckers, Jacamars, Crimson Topaz, Black Nunbird and Ferruginous-backed Antbird on the Island. To date, over 200 species of birds are recorded for the Island and chances are you may be lucky to add a few more to the present list.

This trip will allow you to explore prime and pristine forest which is unique with an allure of its own. See Guyana’s National Flower the Victoria Amazonica also known as the Victoria Lilly which giant leaves can grow to more than one diameter in itself. These can be seen floating on lakes in the lush green environment. It is also the nearest site from Georgetown where you can observe this Lilly in its natural habitat. Gluck Island is also known to some as the ‘isle of the giants’, since it features the Giant River Otter, the Giant Black Caiman, the Giant Amazonian River Turtle and the Giant Vegetarian Cockroach.
